Meet the Star-Studded Cast of Lin-Manuel Miranda's In the Heights Movie

The original Usnavi of the Broadway play, Miranda takes on a drastically different role in the film. The writer plays Piragüero, the owner of a small piragua stand that competes with Mister Softee.

Merediz reprises her original In The Heights role as Abuela Claudia, the adoptive grandmother of the entire community.

Broadway actress, dancer, and singer takes on the role of Daniela, the owner of the neighborhood salon where everyone goes to gossip.

The Hamilton and She's Gotta Have It star takes over the role of bodega owner Usnavi, originally played by Miranda. Usnavi is the narrator of the film who struggles with his desire to close his shop and return to his roots in the Dominican Republic.

The singer and songwriter plays Nina Rosario, the first woman of the Barrio to go to college. Returning home from Stanford University, Nina wrestles with feeling overburdened by school and attempting to live up to her father's expectations.

The 24 star plays Benny, Usnavi's best friend and Nina's love interest. He works at Kevin's dispatch and dreams of opening his own business.

Barrera portrays Vanessa, a hairdresser at Daniela's salon and the mysterious love interest of Usnavi. She's known for catching the eye of every guy in the Heights and only dreams of getting out of the Barrio to live downtown.

The exact nature of the star's role is under wraps, but from the looks of the trailer, she works at the salon with Daniela.

Beatriz will be playing Carla, a remarkably different character from Brooklyn Nine-Nine's Rosa Diaz. Like her friend Daniela, she works at the salon and has a passion for gossip.

Diaz portrays Sonny, Usnavi's younger, smart-mouthed cousin who works with him in the bodega. In the play, he's known as the comedian of the community, but he's also passionate about social justice.
