After being mortally wounded in a fight between The Spider Society and the Sisterhood of the Wasp, Anya Corazon is given a spider-shaped tattoo to save her life. The tattoo gives her spider-like powers, and she's then recruited by The Spider Society to be a hunter. Using the name Araña, she possesses the powers of organic web creation and shadow camouflage in her efforts against Wasp. Eventually, she gives up the hunting lifestyle and goes solo as the new Spider-Girl. Anya is half-Puerto Rican, half-Mexican, which is part of the reason she chose her nickname, Araña, as her superhero moniker.
