Since it's a movie adaptation, broad plot points from the book will likely remain the same. The story centers on Catalina Martín, whose little white lies about having a boyfriend snowball, and before she realizes it, she's in over her head.
Her sister's wedding is approaching, and her family insist she brings her beau as a plus one to the ceremony. Knowing her ex and his fiancée will be present at the wedding, she can't lose face now more than ever. Just as she's running out of time, Aaron Blackford, Catalina's handsome albeit obnoxious colleague, comes to her aid and offers to fill in as her fake boyfriend for the wedding in Spain. As the story and their lies build up, the faux couple get to know each other, and an unlikely romance is sparked.
