Old Hollywood glamour and competition make for an alluring and deadly combination in "Last Night at the Hollywood Canteen," Sarah James's mystery set in 1940s Los Angeles. Playwright Annie Laurence knows murder, at least when it's written for the stage. That's why she's frustrated that she can't find the right star for her latest show. While attending a private party at the Hollywood Canteen, an exclusive club for Hollywood's elite, she winds up in the middle of a plot she could have written herself: a largely disliked film critic is dead, and only a star or staff member can be responsible. Getting to the bottom of a murder mystery proves to be more challenging than Annie once thought, especially when she could be next.
