Michelle Obama to "Explore Meaningful Topics" in New Spotify Podcast Launching This Month
Michelle Obama is joining the world of podcasting! On Thursday, Spotify announced the launch of The Michelle Obama Podcast — the first project to come out of the streaming platform's partnership with Obama's Oscar-winning production company, Higher Ground. "Episode subjects will focus on the relationships that shape us, from siblings and close friends to partners, parents, and mentors to our relationship with ourselves and our health," Spotify and Higher Ground said in a joint statement. "Joining the First Lady will be an array of special guests including Marian and Craig Robinson, Conan O'Brien, Valerie Jarrett, Michele Norris and Dr. Sharon Malone MD."
Obama shared an additional statement about the news, saying, "My hope is that this series can be a place to explore meaningful topics together and sort through so many of the questions we're all trying to answer in our own lives. Perhaps most of all, I hope this podcast will help listeners open up new conversations — and hard conversations — with the people who matter most to them. That's how we can build more understanding and empathy for one another." She also tweeted a teaser video about the project, adding, "It's been a tough year and I hope this podcast can help us explore what we're going through and spark new conversations with our loved ones."
Back in January, Obama won her first Grammy, taking home the award for best spoken word album for the audiobook version of her memoir, Becoming. Four months later, her Netflix documentary, also titled Becoming, detailed her autobiographical book tour and the personal relationships that influenced her along the way. It's been a year full of exciting media ventures for Obama, and we can't wait for more. Subscribe to The Michelle Obama Podcast ahead of its July 29 premiere!
