The First "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts" Trailer Introduces Gorilla Bot Optimus Primal

Now that the star-studded cast for the next Transformers movie, "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts," has been set, we finally have our first look at the upcoming film. On Dec. 1, Paramount Pictures released a teaser trailer starring Anthony Ramos, Dominique Fishback, and Peter Cullen — who's reprising his voice role as Optimus Prime — teasing another action-packed spectacle heading our way. "Of all the threats from both your past and future, you've never faced anything like this," Optimus Primal, voiced by Ron Perlman, says in the clip.

Ramos, Fishback, and Perlman are joined by Pete Davidson and Michelle Yeoh in the movie, both of whom have voice roles. "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts" director Steven Caple Jr. ("Creed II") revealed the casting of Davidson and Yeoh on Oct. 11 via an Instagram post with videos of recording sessions with the two actors. "Pete Davidson in disguise. 😂 @transformersmovie cast is amazing, man," Caple Jr. wrote in a caption. "Sneak peek of Pete voicing Mirage & @michelleyeoh_official blessing us as the voice of Airazor."

"Transformers: Rise of the Beasts," the seventh installment in the blockbuster franchise, follows the 2018 film "Bumblebee." Per the movie's logline, the film will "take audiences on a '90s globetrotting adventure and introduce the Maximals, Predacons, and Terrorcons (new cybernetic alien parties) to the existing battle on Earth between Autobots and Decepticons."

The Hollywood Reporter noted that the new movie's name ties back to the '90s cartoon "Beast Wars," which revolves around a group of robots that morph into animals. Caple Jr., who grew up as a "Beast Wars" fan, took inspiration from the cartoon for his Transformers vision. "There are different breeds of Transformers," Caple Jr. said during a virtual press event in June 2021, per THR. "In our particular film, they are prehistoric animals who travel through time and space, and we find them here on Earth."
