Rather than setting her sights on the joys of grandchildren right now, 65-year-old Annegret Raunigk is pregnant — with quadruplets. Yup, you read that right. Her 13 children — by five different men — are ages 10 to 44. Raunigk made international headlines 10 years ago when she was pregnant with her daughter Leila. When Leila asked her mom for a sibling closer to her age, the Russian and English school teacher attempted artificial insemination abroad using both donated sperm and eggs. Eighteen months later, she found herself pregnant with quads.
"Certainly that was a shock for me. After the doctor discovered there were four, I had to give it some thought to begin with," Raunigk told German newspaper Bild am Sonntag. "I'm not actually afraid. I simply assume I'll remain healthy and fit. In matters of organization I have enough experience, that's not new for me."
German magazine and radio company RTL will document the pregnancy on its current affairs show. At 21 weeks into her pregnancy, Raunigk's doctors say she is healthy and progressing just fine. She is due to retire from her teaching position this year, but rather than a retirement party, it looks like a baby shower will be in order!
