Despite his young age, 10-year-old Cole understands the importance of being there through the good times and bad when he took the old-fashioned route (writing a love letter) to profess his feelings for his girlfriend after she tore her ACL playing soccer.
Although Cole and Sherri are just in the fifth grade, they have been dating for more than a year, and Cole's mature words prove how much he values her in his life.
I'm so sorry that you broke your knee. I will miss watching you play soccer and I'm sorry that you won't be able to play softball for a while. But I know you will heal quickly, and I will get to watch you play again soon. Although you can't play sports, you still make my day when I get to see your beautiful smile.
God has a plan for all of us and sometimes it's hard for us to understand why thing[s] happen to us. My dad tells me that God only allows things to happen that He knows we can handle. You are a pretty, nice, funny, and strong girl that is also a good friend. You will get through this quickly.
Please let me know how I can help during your recovery. I hope you recover fast and get well soon.
Their age-appropriate relationship mostly consists of cheering each other on during their soccer and baseball games, as well as combined family dinners, so Cole's ability to express his feelings are impressive. In order to cheer Sherri up after her surgery, he showed up to the sideline of one of her games — where she was watching her team play — and surprised her with the note as well as a cookie cake and stuffed animal.
