The birth of twins Moroccan and Monroe brought much joy to Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon, particularly after experiencing a miscarriage five years ago. Mariah explained that they learned they had lost their previous baby during the holidays, saying, "It kind of shook us both and took us into a place that was really dark and difficult. When that happened . . . I wasn’t able to even talk to anybody about it. That was not easy."

During an interview on The Today Show, Bethenny Frankel revealed that she had recently had a miscarriage after eight weeks of pregnancy. "That was a very emotional experience. Until you become a woman, you don't know the things that come with it." She added, "I have thought about other women more than myself. I can't believe what people go through if they can't even have the one."

Kirstie Alley ties her 1990 miscarriage to her years-long battle with her weight. In her 2005 book How to Lose Your Ass & Regain Your Life: Reluctant Confessions of a Big-Butted Star the actress wrote:

When the baby was gone, I just didn't really get over it. Neither did my body. I so thoroughly convinced my body that it was still pregnant after nine months that I had milk coming from my breasts. I was still fat, I was still grieving, and I had just been told it was very possible I would never be able to have children.
