What This 11-Year-Old Boy Did to Save His Sister Will Take Your Breath Away

People all over the country are grieving for 11-year-old La'Darious Wylie, who was struck in a hit and run while standing at his Chester, SC, school bus stop on Oct. 27. According to reports from his fellow students, the fifth grader heroically saved his younger sister's life by pushing her out of the way before he was hit. Tragically, La'Darious passed away from his injuries the day after the horrifying incident.

The brave choice to protect 7-year-old Sha'Vonta was in big brother La'Darious's nature, says his mother: "He knew to look out for her." La'Darious will never be able to play in his favorite park, attend local church services, or hug his six siblings again — but the quick-thinking 11-year-old didn't think twice, selflessly lunging in front of his baby sister to protect her from danger. He saved lives after death, too, when his organs were donated to children waiting for transplants.

The speeding car's alleged driver fled the scene before being arrested and charged with felony hit and run. She has been released on bail to await her trial, which could result in one to 25 years in prison in the event of conviction. While the Wylie family awaits justice for La'Darious, the Chester community wants to honor him by renaming his favorite park (right down the street from the bus stop where he was killed) in his honor.
