County Fair Ride Collapses With Kids on It

County Fair Bystanders Hold Up a Kids' Roller Coaster After It Collapses Midride

Dozens of strangers came together to hold up a fair ride with their bare hands when it collapsed at at the Bartow County Fair in Georgia last week.

Six kids were riding the children's roller coaster at the time but no one was injured when one of the legs broke.

Whitney Castro was at the fair with her child when she saw the commotion and took a startling Facebook video of the 20-odd good samaritans who all rushed to keep the ride upright:

"This roller coaster almost fell over with kids on it! If it wasn't for some quick adults, this would have ended a lot worse. I am still shaking. Nobody was hurt, a lot of scared little kids. This ride was being balanced and held up by boards."

What's worse, after the incident on Thursday night, investigators flagged three more of the fair's rides as unsafe. In addition to the Orient Express coaster, which was completely disassembled after it came off its track, a Ferris wheel was erected too close to power lines and another ride called "The Tower" had a seat with a missing bolt that is meant to secure the shoulder strap in place.

"I was scared to go over there," Castro told WSB-TV News. "I thought I was going to see someone cut in half."

And although everyone walked away unharmed, the mom hopes her short video resonates with other parents who might be too trusting of the seemingly safe amusements at temporary carnival-style fair grounds across the nation: "This is why you don't ride the fair rides!"
