Up, Up, and Away! Surviving Baby's First Flight

Whether your babe's being nursed or formula-fed, the Boppy (or whatever pillow you rely on) is worth toting along in your carry-on. The brand has even come out with a great travel version. In addition to supporting your babe during in-flight feedings, it makes napping more comfortable for you and your little one.

Strollers don't count toward your carry-on "quota," so you can keep yours with you until the very last minute and check it gate-side. We suggest bringing a Snap-and-Go for an infant. In the event that there are open seats on your flight, you may come across a friendly gate agent who'll invite you to bring the car seat onto the plane.

Calculate the number of diapers that you think you'll need for the amount of time you'll be on the go (factoring in time to get to the airport, waiting at the airport, the flight itself, and travel to your final destination), then add three to five to your diaper bag. Bring along plenty of wipes, a change of clothes for baby, and an extra top for yourself. Prepare for the worst, hope for the best!

Planes can be icy cold or stuffy and warm — but they're rarely the right temperature. Make sure your babe is prepared for anything by dressing him in layers, packing a pair of socks, and bringing a cozy midweight blanket.
