For many kids In Detroit, the end of Summer isn't filled with back-to-school shopping. For these families, parents are struggling just to make ends meet, and their kids are grateful if they can show up to class with any secondhand school supplies.

The idea of kids heading to school without backpacks or uniforms didn't sit well with Mike Morse, and he decided to do something about it. The lawyer and owner of Mike Morse Law Firm made the decision to donate backpacks stuffed with essential school supplies to every single public elementary school student in the city.

The firm invested a quarter of a million dollars to fund the 23,000 backpacks that went to students attending 65 different schools for kindergarten through fifth grade.

"I think it teaches them that there are people out there in the community that care about them," Mike Morse said in a video showcasing the firm's project. "They want them to succeed, they want them to win at life."

Get in on the effort and make a difference for next year's students by donating to the The Mike Morse Backpack Fund or at the partnering nonprofit Kids in Need Foundation.
