There are two things we know about baby showers. One, they take a long time to plan. Two, they leave you with more tchotchkes than you know what to do with. So when it came time for party planner extraordinaire Jenny Keller to throw a shower for her sister Emily and future niece Emma, she knew she wanted to keep it simple.
"I decided I'd be more intentional with her baby shower and choose a theme she could re-create in her nursery," Jenny writes of her sister's shower. And that's exactly what she did. Using subtle shades and bold geometric graphics, Jenny created a party with items that can be used long after the baby is born. Scroll through to see every element of her totally modern shower.
You're Invited
Jenny turned to the talented Erica at Harper Gray to create colorful invitations. But these weren't ordinary cards: each one had a gold-foiled edge. How chic!
Wall Art
Since the shower was thrown at Jenny's home, she swapped out her entryway photos with prints from Piece Love Paper.
Baby's First Shoes
Hello Moccs' golden shoes ($55) were a cute and stylish touch to the entryway.
Say My Name
Using some custom throw pillows from Fancy It Pretty, Jenny was able to stick to the theme without sacrificing any comfort.
Light Lunch
To ensure they'd have room for dessert, guests were served salads as the main meal.
A New Crib
The BE Little You and Me teepee ($115) doubled as a party decoration and future play space. The mat from TYC Baby Boutique can also be used as a baby blanket.

Jenny's friend Sarah from Paper White Designs made a gorgeous garland that the mom-to-be can later hang in the nursery.

Edible Baby Blocks
Jenny shaped some homemade Rice Krispies Treats into squares and then dipped the edges in pink, blue, and black candy melts.
Personalized Cupcakes
To make the treats extra special, Jenny used a Maison du Bonbon fondant stamp to etch "Emma" into the toppers.
Sweet, Stylish Treats
Not wanting the cookies to look too cutesy, Jenny stuck to mod colors and added edible gold glitter to keep them chic.
Getting Crafty
Rather than play the traditional shower games, Jenny set up tables with unfinished wood blocks ($12 for 10) and scrapbook paper, so guests could craft their own building blocks for the baby.

Paper White Designs also provided colorful confetti poppers, which guests later threw onto the mom-to-be.

As if the party wasn't enough, Jenny gifted her sister with a Joovy stroller.
