A dancer's body is typically strong and toned, but Dancing With the Stars' Peta Murgatroyd is sharing a postpartum photo that proves it doesn't matter what your body looked like before baby, it takes time to heal. The professional dancer posted a candid shot to Instagram of herself eight days after she had her son, Shai Aleksander, to share what her body looks and feels like.
"Real life: I took this photo eight days postbirth," she wrote. "I left the hospital looking five months pregnant. Many people think a woman should shrink right back to her prebirth weight immediately. That is just not the truth for most. The female body is incredible and resilient, but healing and strengthening take time."
Her honest and open caption and photo are an important reminder of how amazing the female body is and just what it's capable of. She ends her post with a shoutout to other new moms, professional dancers or not: "Now it's time for patience and hard work. Lots of love to all the new mamas out there on the journey."
