Rachel Bilson's Quotes About Dating as a Single Mom

Rachel Bilson's Honest Approach to Dating Will Have Other Single Moms Saying, "Hell Yes!"

Rachel Bilson may do whatever it takes to keep her 4-year-old daughter out of the public eye, but she's certainly not shy about bringing up her child to potential suitors. The 37-year-old actress recently guest-starred on The Bachelor alum Nick Viall's podcast, The Viall Files, and opened up about her straightforward approach to dating as a single mom. "I always put it out there," Rachel said of telling men about her daughter, Briar Rose, whom she shares with ex Hayden Christensen. "She's my world and I talk about her all the time. How f*cked up would it be if I hid that?"

"Anyone that you're going to get involved with, if you have a kid, they have to be all about the kid."

The O.C. star went on to candidly share a recent "red flag" experience she had with a man who didn't show much interest in learning more about Briar Rose. "I was talking to this guys a few months back, anytime I would bring my daughter up, they would never pursue the question or ask more about her," Rachel said during the podcast. "It was a red flag because anyone that you're going to get involved with, if you have a kid, they have to be all about the kid . . . If you're going to pursue something with someone, they have to be interested in the kid or be willing to be around the kid." Ain't that the truth!

While Rachel isn't hesitant about discussing her daughter with suitors, she's more conservative when it comes to introducing her child to any men she's dating. "She has not met anyone as of yet and it would have to be someone I know I'm going to be with," the star said, adding that it would have to be "a very serious relationship."

Rachel and Hayden welcomed Briar Rose in November 2014 and the couple called it quits in September 2017 after nine years together. Last year, Rachel opened up about the difficulties of co-parenting and exactly how she explained their shifted lifestyle to her daughter after the split. "I don't know that there is any right way, necessarily. We say Mommy has a house and Daddy has a house, but she's pretty young to have an in-depth conversation. Most important for me is that Briar is OK and secure and stable. No matter what I'm dealing with or how much it hurts or how much anger there is, it's just about her."
