Should I Bring My Infant on Vacation?
This Mom Stood Up to Shamers After Going on a Vacation 3 Months After Giving Birth
Brittany Kerr Aldean — yes, the wife of country singer Jason Aldean — stood up to mom shamers and championed the groundbreaking concept that even new moms can go on vacation in a now-viral Instagram post. The mama to a 3-month-old son, Memphis, shared a photo on March 3 of her and Jason looking enjoying their beach vacation with a to-the-point caption that will immediately shut down any keyboard warrior.
"Much-needed vacay. Just a word of wisdom for all the parent-shamers . . . vacations are OK for new parents to take. Sometimes after being pregnant for almost a year cooped up in a house for weeks at a time, you need a little sunshine and adult time."
While that reminder is surely required in the world of celebrity mom-shaming, Brittany took it a step further by calling out all the people who feel the overwhelming need to leave nasty comments on her photos: "IT IS NOT OK to leave your ignorant comments. If you don't agree with something, PLEASE do me a favor and unfollow me. You will NOT be missed."
And although we can't say for sure, we'd hedge a bet that her caption was directed at her followers who had shamed her for going away in a picture she posted one day earlier.
Although most of the comments on the picture were positive, there are always a few rotten apples in the bunch. Some users asked her why she couldn't just simply bring Memphis with her, while others went even further to shame her for not bringing a babysitter along, writing, "You should take him with you. Bring a nanny! If something happens, he needs his mom."
Regardless of how the Instagram world feels, one thing's for sure: Brittany isn't having the negativity — and we don't blame her. After all, there's nothing wrong with a new mother taking a few days to recharge. She ended her post with a shout-out to her supportive fans: "And for all the sweet, positive, happy people . . . we love you and thank you!!" Well said.
