1 Teacher Let Her Second-Graders Draw on Her Dress — and the Results Are Astonishing

Haley Curfman, a second-grade teacher at Blackwood Public Schools in Oklahoma, wanted to get her students' creative wheels turning with a unique project. What exactly did she have in mind? Letting them color on a white dress in their free time. In a Facebook post that instantly went viral, Haley explained how much she loves doing the project.

"It's the second year in a row I've brought a white dress to school and my students have filled it with their artwork," she wrote, adding that, "This is one of my favorite things to do in my class!"

Although the end result is seriously museum-worthy, Haley explained that the entire project didn't make a huge dent in her pocket. "This is the second year I've done them. I hope to do one every year as a keepsake," she told Scary Mommy. "I get the dresses off Amazon for less than $20 and use fabric markers from Walmart. When the dress is finished, I surprise my students and wear it to a party."

And despite the fact this isn't the first time we've seen this idea taking off in the classroom, the dress project is especially meaningful to her students. "We don't have art in our school, so, I always try to do little creative projects when possible."

Based on last year's finished product, there may be an artist or two in her class of second-graders since according to her Instagram, because she won an award for the creation.

So far, Haley's idea is getting a whole lot of love from teachers and parents alike on Facebook. Since posting it on Feb. 11, her photo has gotten 230,223 shares and over 163,000 reactions.

As far as the rules for her kiddos go, well, there really aren't that many.

"I just tell them to draw things that make them happy. The only rule is to not 'X' things out. I teach second grade and they like to mark things out and start over. Having that rule is also why last years' dress has a Stay Puft Marshmallow man that takes up the whole back," she said. "That's what makes them great."

Once the dress is done, Haley plans to put it on display. Nothing like letting your little one's creativity run wild, right?
