Chrissy Teigen, John Legend Discuss Charity In Jack's Honor

Chrissy Teigen, John Legend Honor Late Son Jack in New Charity Initiative For Children

Nearly two months after the unexpected loss of their son Jack, John Legend and Chrissy Teigen have announced a new charity initiative in partnership with Ronald McDonald House Charities, which provides resources for families with sick and injured children. As part of the initiative, McDonald's has made a $100-million commitment to the cause, pledging to give $100 in each participant's name over the next five years.

"Anyone who knows us knows that the most important thing to us is family," John and Chrissy said in a statement. "When you're able to lean on loved ones, the hard times always get a little easier. We can't imagine how agonizing it must be when you're not able to be there with your sick child." To take part in the challenge, all participants have to do is share a photo or video making the special RMHC heart symbol (see above) and include the hashtag #HereForRMHC on Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, or Facebook before Dec. 31.

"The world is inherently good. I believe people are inherently good, and it's shown itself."

John and Chrissy have been open about the grief they've experienced over the past few months and how they've coped. "I definitely give myself permission to have complete and utter grief. Every day is so different, so when people ask me how I'm doing, I always say, 'I'm okay, today,'" Chrissy said. "The world is inherently good. I believe people are inherently good, and it's shown itself," Teigen added. "As hard as it was, it is beautiful to see this side of it."

Despite their heartbreak, the couple is increasingly grateful for the support they've received from family, friends, and fans, making the new initiative a deeply personal project for them. "This has been a lonely time for so many people because we're all separated physically in so many ways, and just the outpouring of people's love and concern for us has truly been heartening and lifting for us," John said. "The challenges [Chrissy and I] face together have made us feel even more sure about who we are together as a couple, and who we are as a family."

To take the challenge and make the RMHC heart symbol, follow these steps:

  1. Build the house by forming a diamond with your hands.
  2. Show us the chimney by pointing your pinky up.
  3. Put your heart into it by pushing your index fingers down.

Share a photo of your successful hand hearts with the hashtag #HereForRMHC before Dec. 31 and find out more about the initiative ahead.
