Babies are the most likely to die from whooping cough (pertussis) and can have complications such as seizures and brain damage. Immunize.org says, "Whooping cough is common all over the U.S., and recent outbreaks have caused many hospitalizations and deaths." In fact, the CDC estimates that between 10,000 and 40,000 cases are reported each year in the United States. If your child did not receive the DtAP vaccine, then they are at a greater risk for contracting pertussis.
