Bring on the stripes, patterns, and pom-poms! Margherita Maccapani Missoni Amos, of Missoni for Target fame, is bringing her whimsical world of bold and playful design to kids' rooms with the launch of the Margherita Missoni for Pottery Barn Kids collection — the designer's first foray into home furnishings.

The 50-piece collection of bedding, pillows, furniture, lighting, and decor for nursery and kids' rooms borrows patterns from Margherita's two-year-old children's clothing collection, including plenty of the designer's namesake daisies ("margherita" is Italian for daisy). Expect to see that theme in mirrors surrounded by daisy petals, seating that looks like budding flowers, and duvets and blankets with colorful interpretations of the popular flower. There are plenty of pom-poms and insects mixed into the collection too.

"I love insects," Margherita exclaimed when I asked her about the bugs I spotted in her patterns. "I have two boys so I am kind of one of those mothers."

As for the influences that inspired her first foray into furniture, Margherita says she didn't have to look too far. "I never separate design of furniture or clothing," she explained. "The way I always lived it or saw it happening with my mother and grandmother, it is always blended together. When I started designing clothing, I always hoped, eventually the next step would be complementing with furniture and having a whole world of the same tactic."

And for those who aren't quite ready to go full Missoni-style pattern in their kids' rooms, Margherita says it's best to take baby steps. "For me it is so natural and spontaneous. But some that I'm really fond of is the mix of classic with more ethnic, more bold [patterns]. So if you have a navy and white upholstered bed, striped, then you can put on that bold duvet and just add pillows. Start one step at a time, and before you know it, you will be addicted!"
