It's no secret that there aren't many LGBTQ+-friendly children's books on the market, as most fairy tales feature the classic princess-meets-her-knight-in-shining-armor-and-they-live-happily-ever-after type of storyline. But Daniel Haack is here to change that. The LA-based author just released his first book, Prince & Knight, which spotlights an inclusive plot about a prince meeting and falling in love with his knight in shining armor rather than a female princess.

In the animated picture book, the king and queen try to help their son meet a partner by introducing him to an array of young ladies in the kingdom. After realizing he's not interested in any of them, the prince soon meets a knight, whom he falls in love with after they work together to save the kingdom from a fire-breathing dragon. And just like most other classic fairy tales go, "they lived happily ever after."

For Haack, Prince & Knight was inspired by his desire to increase representation in the sphere of books for young children. "Kids deserve to see their own lives and their families represented," the author told the Huffington Post. He hopes the book helps young readers learn that LGBTQ+ people "are just as capable of being the brave heroes, and are just as worthy as anyone of being in love." How cute is that?!
