Brand New Lego Set Actually Builds a Functional Pop-Up Book, and Damn, This Is Cool
In celebration of the 10th anniversary of Lego Ideas — a fan-fueled crowdsourcing platform — the company is releasing a new set created by Lego-lovers Grant Davis and Jason Allemann, and it's seriously cool. Seeming to defy logic, the set they designed is a fully functional pop-up book created solely out of Legos. Yup, it looks at first just like a book made out of Legos, but when you open it up, an actual Lego scene POPS UP as if by magic.
The 859-piece set — which is available on Nov. 1 (just in time for holiday gifting!) — features two different Lego fairy-tale stories, Little Red Riding Hood and Jack and the Beanstalk, as well as four minifigures to go with them: Little Red Riding Hood, Grandmother, the Wolf, and the Giant. Plus, to keep the sizing in the latter story authentic, the set includes Jack as a tiny microfigure.
"Bring the classic fairy tales Little Red Riding Hood and Jack and the Beanstalk to life with the first-ever pop-up book made from Lego bricks!" reads the set's description. "Open the book and up pops grandmother's lovely cottage with swinging door and an interior so you and your family can recreate the memorable story. Will Little Red Riding Hood recognize her grandmother in pajamas or is that the wolf in disguise? Or swap out the scene and climb to the top of the beanstalk in search of treasure in the giant's castle, but microfigure Jack better keep an eye open for the hungry minifigure giant!"
In addition to the two built-in scenes, kids can get creative with the set's many pieces to create their own backdrops and countless Lego adventures. That alone makes this $60 set something we're definitely grabbing for the imaginative Lego-loving kiddos on our holiday lists!
Check out photos of the set ahead, as well as a video sneak peek of how the book works — seriously, it's so awesome.
