This Teacher’s Note to a Girl’s Parents Is So Moving, We’re Not Surprised She Cried Writing It

It's everything we can do as parents to try to raise kind and compassionate children who will leave the world a better place than they found it, and in the case of 6-year-old Peyton's parents, they seem to be doing a pretty top-notch job at just that. Right before the end of her year in Kindergarten last May, Peyton made the day of a fellow classmate's, which created a domino effect of acts of kindness toward the boy, who wasn't often included by other children. After witnessing Peyton's compassion, her teacher, Mrs. Petree, felt moved to write her parents a letter, telling them they're doing a great job raising a little girl who performed "the most heartwarming act of kindness."

"Peyton is only 6 but believe me when I say she is going to change the world one day," Peyton's sister Katt wrote in a tweet featuring two photos of the note the family received. "And yes, I did cry."

The note, written on adorable watermelon-shaped paper, explained to Peyton's parents that after their daughter moved up on the "Super Improver Wall" in her classroom, she was allowed to choose a reward. "The reward she chose was to sit with a friend at lunch," Mrs. Petree wrote. "I thought for sure I knew who she would pick, but she surprised me when she smiled and picked a little boy who never gets picked for anything. It made his day!"

Mrs. Petree continued, sharing that since that day, other children have started to include this boy more in activities, and he has become a completely different child because of it — because of Peyton.

"Children learn to be kind by how they see kindness in their home, so thank you. Y'all are wonderful parents and are raising a little girl that will grow up to do amazing things. Peyton has reminded me why I love teaching Kindergarten."

And Katt isn't the only person who was moved by Peyton's act of kindness and the subsequent letter from Mrs. Petree — hundreds of thousands of Twitter users have liked, retweeted, and commented on Katt's original tweet.
