Mom of Child With Cancer Shares the Heartbreaking Reality of the Effects of Parents Not Vaccinating Kids

A mom of an 8-year-old girl fighting cancer is sharing an important PSA about vaccinations after her daughter was "casually" exposed to measles in a grocery store. Nicole Stellon O'Donnell felt compelled to add her two cents to the vaccination conversation — which shockingly is still a debate despite the numerous studies that show vaccinations are safe and essential — following her daughter's month-long quarantine, urging "parents of children who do not have cancer" to vaccinate their kids not just to protect them but to protect everyone else, too.

"Dear parents of children who do not have cancer: a casual measles exposure in a grocery store caused the following things to happen when my child was in chemotherapy," Nicole started her Twitter thread, outlining the heartbreaking events that followed an average trip to the supermarket.

Nicole continued her emotional thread, sharing that one silver lining was that this all happened over the Summer, so her daughter didn't have to miss any school.

Regardless, Nicole wrapped up her thread by begging parents to vaccinate their children to encourage herd immunity, especially for those children who are too young to be vaccinated or have compromised immune systems.
