Eek! The Baby Ibuprofen Recall Has Been Expanded So Check Your Medicine Cabinets

Parents who give their infants baby ibuprofen should double-check their cabinets . . . again. After NJ-based company Tris Phrara recalled three lots of Infants' Ibuprofen Concentrated Oral Suspension, USP (NSAID) 50 mg per 1.25 mL back in November 2018, a new press release from the group states the it's recalling three more lot numbers of the over-the-counter medication. According to the initial statement, the affected products were voluntarily recalled because they may have a high concentration of ibuprofen that could be harmful to babies. The three brands of medication — Equate, CVS Health, and Family Wellness — were sold at Walmart, CVS, or Family Dollar.

"There is a remote possibility that infants, who may be more susceptible to a higher potency level of drug, [therefore] may be more vulnerable to permanent NSAID-associated renal injury," said the press release. "Adverse effects that may be experienced are nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain, or more rarely, diarrhea. Tinnitus, headache, and gastrointestinal bleeding are also possible adverse effects."

Any parent who comes across a recalled product in their home should throw out or return the medication. Questions?
