People Are Using a TikTok Filter to Take Touching "Photos" With Their Late Loved Ones

The latest TikTok trend focuses on an incredibly touching premise: allowing users to take "photos" with their loved ones who have passed away. People have been using the social media platform's "Green Screen Scan" filter, which essentially lets a person take a photo of themselves using an older picture as the backdrop, thereby superimposing the images.
While this special filter was used for creating other forms of content at first, 19-year-old Alexis Puckett knew that she wanted to apply it to an old photo of her father, who died of esophageal cancer in 2018. Since sharing her sentimental creation on the platform, it's racked up 7.5 million views as of press time. "It made me really happy to be able to see myself now with my dad because he has missed out on so much after passing, as I was only 17 when he passed," she told Buzzfeed.
Understandably, many young adults who have lost their parents jumped at the chance to snap one last picture with their beloved family members. The videos, which are often paired with the "sad audios" option playing in the background, are emotional enough to make just about anyone tear up. Read ahead to get a look.
Using her late father's photo as a backdrop was a deeply moving experience for 21-year-old Adrianne Taylor, who is seen crying throughout the clip. "When making the TikTok I became overwhelmed with emotions, and it was nice to see a photo of us, with me grown-up rather than a being little girl," she told POPSUGAR. "I've watched the video myself at least 200 times."
She continued: "When seeing my video the first time people might assume that he had passed recently because I show such raw sadness. In reality, sometimes it feels like 8 years and sometimes it feels like it was just yesterday. When losing a loved one, there's no time limit on your grief, you just learn to live with it."
Charlotte Sanford, whose father died in a car crash, felt compelled to share her own rendition now that she's expecting a child. "He passed away in a car accident when I was 10," she told POPSUGAR. "My twin sister and I were on our way to visit him on spring break. He passed away the night before we made it to Vancouver Island."
Nineteen-year-old Sara Rogers created an ode to her mom, who tragically passed away in a car accident last year after being in a coma for 11 days. "I made another [video] before I made [this one] and immediately bawled my eyes out, as you can probably tell by my red face. It looked way too realistic and was very sentimental to me," she told us. "I've had a ton of people reach out to me about their parents passing and it was extremely comforting knowing other people have gone through the same trauma and have gotten through it."
