After temporarily closing due to the coronavirus pandemic, Sesame Place will begin its phased reopening on July 24. The park will have a number of safety precautions in place and will operate at limited capacity and by reservation only.
Each guest over 2 years old will be required to wear a mask in the park — except for while eating, in water, or in designated relaxation areas — and guest and employee temperatures will be taken at the entrance. Additionally, there will be enforced physical-distancing restrictions, so some of the park's attractions will be temporarily closed, parades will be canceled, and character meet-and-greets will be modified. In terms of restaurants, shops, and public spaces, enhanced cleaning protocols will be in place, hand sanitizer will be available for all guests, and lines will have clear markers for physical distancing.
"We thank Governor Wolf for his support of tourism in Pennsylvania as we prepare to reopen Sesame Place on July 24," Marc Swanson, interim CEO of SeaWorld Entertainment, Inc., said in a press release. "We have worked diligently with state and local health officials, outside consultants and attraction industry leaders to enhance our already strict health, safety and cleanliness standards. These protocols and guidelines will be modified based on evolving industry standards and methodologies, public health and governmental directives, and advancing scientific knowledge on the transmissibility of COVID-19."
To visit the park, Sesame Place will require that guests — season pass member or not — have a reservation, which can be made online beginning July 20. Beginning July 24, the park will be open most Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. as of now.
