5 Fierce Ways to Style Your Denim

Mixing masculine pieces with feminine details is at the core of this editor's styling routine. Meg took her favorite sweatshirt — she bought it nine years ago from a vintage dealer — and tossed it over Levi's 711 jeans in gray. To finish things off, she slipped on suede and leather Céline heels.

More about the jeans: Meg slashed the knee of her jeans with scissors before throwing them into the wash to fray. She dried them halfway, then rolled the jeans into a ball and tied them with a rubber band so they'd have a worn-in effect.

Meg has a pretty epic white blouse collection. "It feels like what grown-ups should wear," she says. This top in particular is from a Parisian line and is punctuated with a pretty silk tied scarf. She finished the look with Levi's 721 High-Rise Skinny Jeans and Acne architectural block heels.

How she styled the pants: Meg has mastered the rolling technique. The key is to be gentle when you roll the cuffs; don't fold them. It should look uneven and imperfect.

Because Meg is petite, she opted to tailor her Levi's 721s herself. Slashing both knees and cuffs helped her turn these high-waisted skinnies into worn-in perfection. "I wanted to make it feel like I had them forever," she says.

To distress the jeans: After cutting both knees and cuffs, she washed and dried them twice, making sure to rub the thread together in between each wash.

The outfit: She wore a cropped mockneck to show off the high-waisted pants and a black sleeveless trench with a satin finish. Look closely at the suede pumps — there are emoji details at the toe. Details are everything.

Meg swapped her everyday classic moto jacket for something more fun for Summer. The suede piece felt like a subtle way to take on the '70s trend without going full-on boho. She completed the look with vintage Céline heels, which she scored at the Fairfax Flea in Los Angeles, and a Jerome Dreyfuss pony-hair bag.

The pants: The high rise of the jeans makes them superflattering. Meg rolled up the ankles to show off her kitten heels.
