1 Dress at the Givenchy Show Looked Very Familiar
It's not uncommon for designers to look into their own archives, or — if working for a house that also shows couture — to carry through ideas from recent couture collections when creating ready-to-wear. But it's rare we see such an obvious replica hit the runway, especially with a four-year delay. But one gown from the Givenchy Spring/Summer 2016 collection shown this weekend was a dead ringer for one shown in the label's couture collection in 2012, famously worn by Anne Hathaway to the premiere of Les Miserables.
At a glance, it looks like only the color of the fabric and beading has changed. All the elements are still there, from the metal ring at the neckline to the bigger beads creating a cross at the waist. But it's likely that in the move from couture to ready-to-wear, a few more tweaks have had to happen to make the gown suitable for the (slightly) lower price tag. Of course, Riccardo Tisci has every right to take some of his most famous work and give it a new lease on life, but we wonder what inspired him to choose this particular dress, this particular season?
