Burberry Show Spring 2016
Burberry Is Back in Black (With a Backpack) For Spring 2016
If last season's Burberry girl was a folksy boho princess, this season we met her edgier, sexier little sister. The Cara to last season's Poppy Delevingne, perhaps. So it was fitting that both sisters were in the audience to see one of Burberry's most showstopping shows ever. With a live set from Alison Moyet (backed by a 32-piece orchestra sat in a sunken space in the middle of the runway), it was an incredibly atmospheric experience to be part of. Titled "functionregalia," the show was surprisingly dark for a Spring/Summer collection, with a lot of black coats, capes, and dresses, but sheer fabrics, occasional pastel pops, tie-dyed prints, and lots of contrasting beige helped to lighten things up. The "function" element of the collection came in fabrics like weatherproof silk and cotton gabardine and in the monogrammed backpacks that each model sported. "Regalia" showed up in metallic cording, regimental buttons, and gold accents. Sex appeal came in sheer fabrics, English lace, flocked polka dots, and Swarovski crystals. The key pieces? An intricately detailed lace trench coat, a modern biker jacket with glam gold hardware, and a silver evening dress created only for the bravest Brit babe.
