There are some items in our closets that are in it for the long haul. We've partnered with Keds to share the wear-with-anything pieces that our editors truly can't live without.
Plain white tees, good denim, and throw-on-and-go sneakers may compose different parts of an outfit, but they all have one thing in common: total versatility. Take a look in any girl's closet, and you're guaranteed to find similar basics that can be dressed up, down, and across seasons. Our editors are no different.
To see which fashion items they're totally devoted to, we asked five editors to share one piece they've consistently repurchased over the years (or even have on hand in multiples right now!). Read on to see their picks and hear why they consider them absolute necessities. Between them being easy to style, neutral in color, and insanely comfortable, you'll probably notice a pattern in their responses.
The Slip Dress
"I have a pretty bad habit of purchasing different iterations of the same thing, but my real weakness is black slip dresses. While my boyfriend would disagree, the four I have currently hanging in my closet are all distinguishable and serve different purposes. I love the details that can vary across each dress, whether it's the neckline, the thickness of the strap, the length, the material, or the slit, plus the fact they're all so easy to dress up or down. In fact, I'm even considering adding a fifth version ($75) to my collection. Clearly, I can't get enough." — Stephanie Nguyen, associate native fashion editor
The Comfortable Kicks
"Keds Champion Originals in classic white are one of the first pairs of sneakers I had as a kid. They were essentially a status symbol among my peers, and I'd run out to recess in those crisp white kicks with pride. I rediscovered the brand after college, and now I pick up a new style every year or two because they're so fun, versatile, and easy. My new favorite is the ultrabreathable Studio Leap ($65) in black, which goes with absolutely everything. These slip-ons have elastic laces and a neoprene tongue, which make them great to throw on for errands, traveling, or any day I need something ultracomfortable and cute." — Joanna Douglas, senior native editorial director
The Satin Cami
"Satin camisoles ($25) with lace detailing are my favorite! They're the perfect stylish staple for dressing down with jeans and boots or layering under sweaters during the Winter. I stock up on the neutral shades, like black and cream, that pair well with everything, but I love to pick a pop of color, like red or blue, for special occasions." — Tyler Atwood, associate native living editor
The White Button-Down
"I currently own about five white button-downs ($70), but it feels like every season, I buy a new one. I use them as a layering piece under sweaters during the Winter and as a standalone piece when it starts warming up. They look classic and pulled together with something as simple as skinny jeans and earrings or can look chic and dressed up if I pair them with a skirt and heels. I'm not partial to brands, but sometimes if I'm feeling fancy, I will get the cuff monogrammed." — Amanda Murray, senior native style editor
The Do-It-All Denim
"Madewell high-rise skinny jeans ($128) forever and ever! They hold up for years, and the denim is such high quality that they never feel baggy between washes. I always have a variety of colors in rotation, and I keep a stockpile just in case they are ever discontinued (something I can't even bear to contemplate)." — Lynne Lavelle, senior native living editor
