There are backdrops, and then there are backdrops — and without a doubt, the delectable scene Opening Ceremony chose to showcase its Fall lineup was in a class of its own. The editor-beloved label walked its latest creations in front of a veritable wall of chocolate created by pouring 4,000 pounds of Belgian chocolate over an extended thumbprint design (scroll through to get a visual).
The gimmick connected too, with hand-printed pants and dresses and a quirky-cool matched swing shirt and circle skirt embossed with swirls that look to be lifted from an actual fingerprint. It was clearly an off-kilter sort of fashion show, and the clothes proved it: asymmetry was big, with hemlines that went from brushing the knee to being scandalously high and zippered tops styled on the diagonal. This might finally be the year sequins start to appeal to the downtown set, too: leave it to Carol Lim and Humberto Leon to ace that trick.
