Princess Diana's Gym Sweatshirt Sold For $53,532 — Now That's Iconic

Back in the mid '90s, Princess Diana had a habit of wearing the same outfit to the gym as often as she could. Unlike us, it wasn't because she only had a handful of gym outfits to choose from, but because she wanted to bore the paparazzi. One of her go-to outfits was a navy sweatshirt with the Virgin Atlantic Varga girl on it, said to have been a gift from the company's owner, Richard Branson.

Diana wore the top with biker shorts and trainers, a trend that's seeing a serious revival right now. After wearing it to the gym on many occasions, Diana then gave the sweatshirt to her personal trainer Jenni Rivett, who explained why the princess favored it, saying, "She felt there were far more important issues to focus on in the world than her gym attire and therefore decided that wearing the famous Virgin sweatshirt to every session would be a good way to stop the media frenzy!"

Rivett auctioned off the sweatshirt, along with a gift tag signed by the princess, to one lucky royal fan, who purchased it for $53,532 (though it was estimated to sell for just $6,300) according to Boston-based RR Auction. Rivett plans to donate the proceeds from the sale to help a Malawian family based in South Africa, where she is originally from. Keep reading to see the princess wearing this iconic piece.
