Ab Windows Are the Latest Dress Trend Celebrities Are Loving

From extreme hip cleavage to kitschy butt cutouts, designers and stars alike have become increasingly more creative when it comes to showing skin. The ab window is another daring trend that's recently surfaced, with celebrities stepping out in dresses featuring standout cutouts to highlight their core. The style is characterized by its singular "window" into the abs, often designed in a diamond shape.

While the aptly placed stomach cutout isn't new, more stars have been experimenting with the trend as of late. Most recently, at Paris Fashion Week in September, celebrities like Dove Cameron and Rosalía played around with the style. Cameron's halter gown at the Nina Ricci show came with a triangle cutout, while Rosalía's black dress at the Acne Studios runway featured a sizable opening spotlighting her abs.

Similarly, in July, Nicole Kidman wore a black Saint Laurent gown with a romantic rosette detail and diamond-shaped ab window at the London premiere of "Special Ops: Lioness." Coco Jones took on a different interpretation of the style at the BET Awards in June, wearing a sequined red dress with an oval-shaped cutout that put her abs on display. The likes of Lori Harvey, Hailey Bieber, and Zoë Kravitz have also tried the trend for size, both on and off the red carpet.

While comparable, the ab window is not to be confused with the boob-window trend, which bares one's cleavage in the form of openings around the bust. The latter is also having a moment in Hollywood — stars like Florence Pugh, Chloë Bailey, and Sydney Sweeney have been spotted flaunting various chest cutouts in the past few months.

Donning an ab-accentuating look, Dove Cameron attended the Nina Ricci show during Paris Fashion Week. Her black halter dress came with a triangle-shaped cutout across the stomach and a cape draped over her shoulders.

Rosalía's Ab-Window Cutout Dress

The singer recently modeled an Acne Studios creation with a considerable ab cutout at the designer's Paris Fashion Week show. The chic black dress also featured a draped skrit and keyhole cutouts, which she paired with a bubblegum-pink purse and silver heels.

Zoë Kravitz's Ab-Window Cutout Dress

Kravitz wore a classic ab-window dress at the GQ Men of the Year party in November 2022, stunning in a long-sleeve Saint Laurent look. The draping came together to reveal a diamond-shaped cutout across her stomach.

Lori Harvey's Ab-Window Cutout Dress

Harvey has sported the trend on numerous occasions, but wore the ultimate ab-cutout dress at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival in May. For the amfAR Gala, she flaunted her sculpted core in a red LaQuan Smith look.

Hailey Bieber's Ab-Window Cutout Dress

At the Academy Museum Gala in October 2022, Bieber wore a slinky Saint Laurent gown with an ab-exposing cutout. The rest of the dress was kept minimal, with a twisted strapless neckline and ruched skirt.

Nicole Kidman's Ab-Window Cutout Dress

Kidman turned heads at the "Special Ops: Lioness" screening, also wearing an ab-baring ensemble from Saint Laurent. The sleek black dress combined several trends, including a rosette detail and a diamond-shaped stomach cutout.
