7 Trends We Saw All Over Fashion Week Runways and in Street Style

Sheer was one of AFW 2024's biggest trends and we're seeing it continue into this year's collections. The update this year? Head-to-toe sheer looks. If the look feels a bit 'out there' to pull off, opt for one sheer piece, and balance it with something more casual, like a sheer skirt and oversized white tee.

Big white feathers, the kind you'd see at a cabaret show featured in three or four looks from Carla Zampatti. Plumage also featured in a dress by Macgraw and a couple street style looks proving that the trend is well and truly here. An easy way to try the trend? Look for pieces that have feathered accents, like a sleeve or pant hem.

Nearly all shows I went to had outfits with a juxtaposition of luxurious materials. Esse, shown at The Frontier show, had a flapper-style skirt paired with a heavysilk top. Carla Zampatti had a light brown taffeta mini dress with a cut-out sheer back.

Bermuda shorts — shorts which cut off right above the knee — have been trending for the last year or so, and the trend is continuing to pick up steam. How is it continuing to evolve? We're seeing more elevated fabrics like satin and sheer elements.

Scarves have also been having a moment at AFW. They appeared throughout Ngali's show, worn in different ways. A silk scarf was tied around the neck and worn like a short necklace. Another silk scarf was tied around a model's neck like a choker and we also spotted some models wearing long silk scarfs draped over one shoulder. Beare Park also had a look with a black tank, Bermuda shorts and a black silk scarf slung around the neck.

Tomato red swept global runways in 2023 and 2024, and it's still kicking on today, spotted on models at Alix Higgins and Carla Zampatti, as well as in several street style looks. The colour shows confidence, as well as fieriness.
