The Incredible Way Fashion Moments Like This Happen

The future of fashion is now — and to see it in action, you need look no further than to 3D printed technology. NPR just gave us behind-the-scenes access to the process in motion with a time-lapse video of Brooklyn-based Continuum printing (yes, printing) a pair of futuristic black sandals that will retail for $250 to $395. While the actual process is not a quick one — ranging between 16 to 20 hours per shoe — we can definitely enjoy watching the sped-up printing of the plastic and thermoplastic polyurethane wedges.

Of course, this is not the first time the technology and fashion collided. Taking center stage in the 2013 Victoria's Secret show, where Lindsay Ellingson worked printed snowflake wings, and on the Iris van Herpen Haute Couture Fall 2013 runway, the innovation certainly has found willing and eager designer participants. See the process in action, and then check out the fashionable ways it's already been implemented.
