Wearing Your Gym Clothes in Public Is No Longer a Fashion Faux Pas

I've never seen so many fashion editors wearing sneakers — and I'm not just talking about Nike's Spring '15 Women's Summit, where editors were treated to a full rundown in all-things fitness from the "Just Do It" trendsetters this week. Sure, you expect sneakers at a press event that's all about Nike, but do you expect to see so many at Fashion Week or running around NYC's most stylish neighborhoods? All signs point to the fact that sportswear is taking over the style game.

High-fashion sneakers were the jumping-off point, but if you ask Karl Lagerfeld, designers have finally lost control and started making really stylish sweats (Karl included). This year saw the rise of fashion-friendly activewear lines that are as chic as they are functional — and they're here to stay.

Net-a-Sporter's launch this Summer was one of the first high-end fashion retailers to offer a section entirely devoted to designer yoga pants, hoodies, swimwear, and even sweatbands, but it certainly wasn't the last. Since then, we've seen sportswear edge its way into the fashion arena even more prominently, like Athleta's runway spot during NYFW. And, with lines coming from everyone from Betsey Johnson to Joe Fresh — hey, even Alexander Wang's lineup for H&M is decidedly workout-friendly — you're about to see a lot more of the style set in their gym clothes, and a lot more well-dressed gymgoers, too. Scroll through for a look at all the style-conscious activewear labels you'll want to add to your own closet. Photo courtesy of Nike

Nike x Pedro Lourenco

Nike latest collaboration with Brasilian designer Pedro Lourenço is the marriage of function and style. And, with Karlie Kloss as the face of the mashup, it doesn't get more high-fashion than that. Mark your calendars for the debut Nov. 13.

Nike's newly-unvelied Spring '15 lineup of footwear has a striking resemblance to some of our favorite high-fashion labels (Chanel, anyone?). And, the Flyknit technology doesn't just benefit your workout performance, it gives the shoe a beautiful technicolor effect that's equally appealing for fashion fans.
