A Brand-New Suit Just Came Walking Down Giorgio Armani’s Runway

This season, it seemed Giorgio Armani envisioned his suit, then changed his mind five times over. Lucky for us, we were offered all of its reincarnations on the Fall '16 runway. What started off as mod-chic separates — tight little tweed jackets or boleros often belted and paired with velvet palazzo pants — transformed into tailored neutrals. These consisted of blazers, a plaid print, and an unexpected add-on: bow necklaces with a streaming ribbon at the center, a makeshift tie.

There were standout coordinates too, including a full cashmere two-piece, splashed lightly in florals, and one cropped style in full-on fringe. The most luxurious set was velvet, coming three-piece with a mini vest and adorned with shimmering stones and one jeweled brooch. But as usual, all of Armani's looks were movable. Highly detailed — the draping on one asymmetrical cape was impressive — but somehow still, the designer's clothes appeared weightless.

Eveningwear introduced us to a lot more sparkle. Panels of sequined chiffon floated down a midi and tunic, and strapless organza gowns were clasped with wide belts at the bust or waist. The velvet dresses we could see gracing the red carpet on the likes of Naomi Watts. But who would wear the final outfit, a tulle cape that covered a crisp, sexy jumpsuit like a veil?
