With every Chanel collection he debuts, Karl Lagerfeld seems to one-up himself. But the iconic designer just proved the easiest way to impress the fashion world is by turning to the past. Karl staged his Fall '16 runway at the Grand Palais in Paris. Gold chairs faced back-to-back in a traditional salon, so every guest got a front-row seat.

Though that adds a little pressure — the focus being solely on the clothes — Mr. Lagerfeld pulled off the stunt, opting to show classic tweed sets in a mostly black-and-white color scheme, layers of pearl necklaces, and embellished strap-on hats, sure to become fast favorites.
