Gigi Hadid Says Tommy Hilfiger "Loves Her Curves" in Response to the Weight Controversy

Gigi Hadid responded to the Tommy controversy on Access Hollywood:

"I know that when Tommy said it last week, it was in context of a larger story that wasn't shown in the video. The point of that story was that Tommy was rooting for me regardless of what the stylist of that season said or what he put me in. Tommy wanted me in the show and was pushing for me. And Tommy loved my curves. The next season, I wore a bikini on the same runway with the same stylist who previously put me in a poncho."

"Gigi is truly the definition of a 'Tommy Girl' _ her magnetic personality is bright, confident and always optimistic. I've known her for many years, and am extremely proud to have her as the ambassador of my brand and as a collaborator of our collections. Any statement to the contrary is completely false. The headline from the interview with Yahoo was misleading and has since been corrected."

Gigi Hadid and Tommy Hilfiger have shared many big moments together: a designer collaboration, several runway shows, and even plans for a Spring '17 collection. You would think the partnership came together seamlessly, but in a new video interview, Tommy revealed that their budding relationship almost didn't happen because of one topic: Gigi's weight.

"[Gigi is the] all-American girl next door with an exotic twist to her look. Our casting director said, 'She doesn't really fit because you know she's not quite as tall as the other girls, she's not quite as thin. So they put a red, white, and blue poncho on her; it covered a lot of her body unfortunately, but it received millions of hits," Tommy said. "So I said, you know, why don't we ask her to design a line with us. So I said, Gigi come design this with me, we'll do a Gigi x Tommy couture line."

Not surprisingly, the Tommy x Gigi line drew major attention from the fashion crowd, with A-list celebs like Taylor Swift and Serena Williams, rocking the gear. Though this is the first we've heard of Tommy talking about Gigi's weight, the model has spoken out before that she's not your average model and she's pretty damn proud of it.

Gigi has since shot down body shamers from all sides, creating a more positive environment for all models, whether they're a size zero or not, and has nailed every single runway show she's walked in. She's even walking in the Victoria's Secret Fashion show (again) come December. When asked how Gigi maintains such a body-positive manta, the model said, "I grew up as an athelete, so I was very proud and very understanding of my curves, which I think a lot of teenagers aren't sometimes. So when I had those muscles, I knew the hard work that came with them."
