Calvin Klein Is One of the Most Iconic Brands in Fashion — and It Just Got a Makeover

For his debut Calvin Klein show, Raf Simons invited guests (including Millie Bobby Brown, Sarah Jessica Parker, Naomie Harris, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Bosworth, Julianne Moore, and A$AP Rocky) to an installation made by his favorite artist, Ruby Sterling. The decor — fringe banners and furniture hanging from the ceiling — was Ruby's take on America. The clothes were just a part of the story. Raf sent both men and women down the runway, but most of his looks, including the crisply tailored suits and sporty trousers with stripes, were wearable for either sex.

Every model made some type of statement, be it with a pair of cowboy boots, a graphic-printed flap, a diamond rope belt, or a handful of ostrich features, speaking to the idea that however different we are in our personal style, we each represent an idea and we all have something to say. We all have a little daredevil in us, especially those who will proudly slip into those sheer, stocking-like sweaters and flaunt some skin.

The materials on the runway were a mixed bag, from PVC to ribbed wool (there was even a wrap skirt fashioned from an American flag) and of course classic CK denim. In fact, the collection culminated with a few jean sets, because Americans can't very well go through life without paying tribute to their roots. Obviously, Raf didn't forget his own. He couldn't resist a feminine touch — the pointy heels met midi skirts and dresses creating that classic A-line shape that, no matter how modern the runway, will always exude glamour.
