The Internet Is Not Letting Ivanka Trump Get Away With Wearing This Red Dress

During President Donald Trump's first speech to a joint session of Congress, he repeated his infamous campaign rhetoric of "Buy American, and hire American." Sitting in the audience was his daughter Ivanka Trump in a $2,995 dress. The red ensemble was by French designer Roland Mouret. It was not, in fact, designed or made by an American — something her father has advocated for in most of his speeches.

Once people realized the hypocrisy, they took to social media to blast Ivanka's dress, from its appropriateness to the revealing straps. People even brought Michelle Obama into the conversation, noticing the double standard in how we judge both women's outfits. The former first lady had always championed American designers and was also often criticized for exposing her arms. Many made the obvious connections and took issue with Ivanka's look.
