The Stella McCartney Girl Is Comfortable, But Full of Energy For Fall

There's poignant energy at every Stella McCartney show, and Fall 2017 was no exception. The designer invited guests to the Opéra Garnier in Paris so they could first see the new collection, then enjoy a dance party where models gathered in the center of the room screaming "Don't f*ck with my energy" and belting out the song "Faith" as a tribute to George Michael.

It wouldn't have really mattered whether Stella birthed new trends on the runway or just kept to her signature tailoring; showgoers would have left feeling equally peppy. But Stella provided a little bit of both, that is, her staples — including plaid coats, movable with slits at the side, and full material jumpers with a padded, pointed bra shape — and new accessories — big cushion bags that wrap up and around the arm like a glove and cap-toe glove pumps that will be popular in either the leopard or kelly green. Also not to be missed: the new trainer sneaker to compete with Stella's Elyse platform. It's got velcro straps and plenty of padding.

Stella's dreamy new horse motif along with her color palette of cranberry, olive, and tawny brown speak to the season, but her see-through plissé dresses are just sheer enough to sneak a peek of lingerie. It's the Summer midi to wear any time of the year. Finally, slinky lace-embroidered slips are thrown over long turtlenecks and high-waisted trousers gather and pool around the waist, providing the Stella girl with subtle support at every turn.
