The 16 Best Runway Looks at Fashion Month

Fashion Month is a whirlwind. So when you ask any of our editors to name the best look, the best moment, the most standout accessory, you'll have to give us a second. That's four cities worth of shows and presentations we'll have to think over. But for a girl who feels a little spark when her favorite designer takes a bow, or when the lights dim right before a new line debuts, reprocessing all the lovely clothes we just saw is a task we'll gladly take on.

Below, we've chosen our four favorite looks and collections from the Fall 2017 season — one from New York, one from London, one from Milan, and finally one from Paris. As it turns out, we all have quite different tastes, but pretty solid reasons for backing the most memorable trends we saw this month.

"The clothes are beautiful, but the story Prabal is telling is the star. His collection is about empowerment, activism, and embracing femininity. And his heart comes through in every gorgeous piece and in the thoughtful finale he brought to Fashion Week. I don't think there was a dry eye in the house when his models finished taking their final walks. The finale t-shirts were a close second to this dress." — Hannah Weil McKinley, director, Fashion

“Every season, Rosie Assoulin makes her pieces more wearable. The designer is well-aware she's got a fandom beyond red carpet stars, and I’m one of those devotees. I think Rosie has a knack for making voluminous, bright silhouettes petite-friendly, and for that I’m forever grateful. Despite this look’s matching bomber and slingback loafers, the print isn’t too much — it’s just really, really noticeable in a good way.” — Sarah Wasilak, editor, Fashion

“I’ve loved Marchesa ever since Anne Hathaway wore that one-shoulder red gown to the 2008 Oscars. Keren Craig and Georgina Chapman know how to design pretty gowns that not only drape well, but are also rich in colors and details. The Fall 2017 collection was a great example of that. The designers took inspiration from Imperial China, and being Chinese, that is part of the reason the collection resonated with me. I loved the Asian-style elements.” — Marina Liao, assistant editor, Fashion

“Alexander Wang can do no wrong in my book. When I think of New York street style, his collections are always the first ones to pop up in my head. He has an effortless way of making even a simple long-sleeve t-shirt and leather shorts look so edgy. Also, can we talk about how amazing these "No After Party" leggings are?” — Nikita Ramsinghani, assistant editor, Fashion

“I love the direction Christopher Bailey took this season, bucking tradition with more contemporary streetwear. While the heritage brand's DNA remains, this collection is made to be worn and lived in right now — and I'd be happy to do that in almost any piece from this lineup.” — HWM

“I’m surprised by how much I loved Temperley’s Fall collection. The dresses were a little Victorian-inspired, but there’s something so sexy about the combination of a sheer, flowy skirt and modest neckline. Complete with smoking slippers, and I might even throw a sweater over the combination to lounge around the house.” — SW

“I first heard of Erdem thanks to Kate Middleton, and I can see why the Duchess of Cambridge gravitates toward the fashion house. It has a very feminine aesthetic through the use of florals and lace, which just so happen to be two of my favorite clothing details. Put a floral print on a top or drape lace across a dress, and I'm sold.” — ML

“The first outfit in the collection, worn by model Lily Donaldson, instantly left an impression on me for two reasons: one, I gravitate towards sweatshirts and this one is made from silk, and two, it has “Happy WKNDR Forever” written on it!” — NR

Prada, Milan Fashion Week

“Miuccia Prada is a feminist who designs for strong women. This collection was a poignant nod to womanhood, told with both humor and power. I love her strong point of view — that each detail feels intentional, from the puka shells to the grandma-inspired knits; but my favorite was a soft petal pink slip of a dress worn with knee-high riding boots. Just the way a fashion girl would want to wear it.” — HWM

“I’m usually a fan of Fendi for the accessories alone, but this season Karl Lagerfeld and Silvia Venturini Fendi met in perfect harmony, rolling out lust-worthy bags that complemented the wear-every-day outerwear and ‘70s-inspired dresses. I think the leg slit on this satin fit-and-flare comes to just the right height, that is when paired with the new Cuissard boot. Also, the Americana color palette is very now and very me.” — SW

“I can see myself wearing every look that came down the Fall 2017 runway. The collection was full of easy, monochromatic outfits, with the key piece being outerwear. Max Mara makes beautiful and practical coats. I especially loved the one on Elsa Hosk, with the giant furry pockets, because it's that cozy and effortless style everyone is after.” — ML

“Alessandro Michele has put Gucci back on the map and his latest collection did not deviate from his path. I love that he teamed up with Spanish artist Coco Capitán for this collection. My favorite piece has to be the "Common Sense Is Not That Common" tank top that I'm sure we'll be seeing on just about every celebrity's Instagram account soon enough.” — NR

“There are collections I love because of their whimsy and fantasy and collections I love because they will actually change the way I dress. Stella McCartney's is the latter. Her artful reinvention of the ordinary is endlessly chic. I especially loved her work with lace, her neutral palette, and her play on classic suiting, walking the line between traditional and fashion-forward, sophisticated and provocative.” — HWM

“On the last day of Fashion Month every season, Miuccia Prada puts a smile on my face. Miu Miu is her more playful line in comparison to Prada, and there was no limit to the furry details and diamonds on the Fall 2017 runway. While there were bright faux-fur coats that extended to the floor, I was struck by this fuzzy-lined sport bomber, and the glamorous result of an outfit finished with chandelier earrings, silk trousers, and crystalized sandals.” — SW

“Expanding on last season's feminism message, Maria Grazia Chiuri's Fall '17 collection was equally strong and empowering. The military-style outfits were sophisticated, but inviting enough to wear, and the cool blue tones drew me in right away. My favorite outfit was a navy knit sweater tucked into an ombré cerulean skirt — a go-to uniform that's easy, sweet, and refined.” — ML

Maria Grazia Chiuri's latest collection has proven she's a force to be reckoned with. The shade of blue (which happens to be my favorite color) and the berets made for showstopping looks. This sparkly number caught my eye, and I think it would make for the perfect Cinderella moment.” — NR
