The new year starts in January, and if you think that's not bikini season, well, you're wrong. Right when Resort collections drop, it feels like the supermodels and stars jet-set off to extravagant beach locales, showing us exactly what to wear for the new year. We've done our research, analyzing the new prints, silhouettes, and colorways brands are churning out, thereby finalizing the biggest swimsuit trends to invest in now and wear through next Christmas. Yep, that means you can trust all of these styles to be relevant when you're on vacation in May or September, and we bet you'll be just as excited to flaunt them then, too. Go ahead and read up on every swimwear design, or jump ahead to the one you're already eyeing.

01

Belted

Whether it's a thick, contrast belt around the waist or strapped onto a bikini bottom, the added accessory draws attention to the waist. Here, Hilary Rhoda wears the Solid + Striped Rachel Bikini Top ($88) and Bikini Bottom ($88).

02

Polka Dots

It's a classic print that's made its way onto so many street style outfits, so why not swimsuits? Here, Shanina Shaik wears a Tularosa one-piece on Revolve's location in Bermuda, but Candice Swanepoel's a fan of the look, too.

03

Fruit Suits

We've already got a few favorite cherry-printed suits on our wish lists, including the Solid + Striped Michelle Cherry One-Piece ($168) Demi Lovato's rocking. But other fruits are fair game too, including lemons, bananas, and pineapples.

04

Velvet

The velvet swimsuit trend is somewhat of a continuation from 2017, but now we've got so many more colorways to choose from. Here, Joan Smalls rocks a design from her upcoming collaboration with Smart & Sexy.

05

Frilled Sleeves

Asymmetrical ruffles, floral appliqué, and decoration on one side are all details you'll see this year. Devon Windsor's white embellished design would be the perfect bridal one-piece, eh?

06

Sports Bra Tops

High-leg bottoms have been around for some time, but pair one with a sporty top like Sara Sampaio's, and you're straight out of the '80s. These designs are fitted and functional, but when made with less fabric, probably best reserved for ladies with a small bust.

07

Ribbed or Seersucker

Is it a swimsuit or is it a bodysuit? Better yet, is it both? Hannah Bronfman shows off Hunza G's Seersucker Swimsuit ($160), which is textured and offers a little more dimension than your classic maillot in lycra. Pair one of these with your cutoff shorts and wedges, and you've got way more of a look than you'd imagine.

08

Cheeky

Women are confident to show a little more booty in 2018, and we think that's great. While we've seen plenty of thong bikini bottoms (ahem, Lady Gaga), Ashley Graham's getting the party started in her Swimsuits For All x Ashley Graham VIP Black Swimsuit ($62, originally $96), which provides a structured one-and-done look if you prefer more top-to-bottom coverage.

09

Warm Tones

From marigold to bright orange, swimsuits in these warm shades will make you glow. Think of any hue that reminds you of the sunrise, and run with it. Emily Ratajkowski's got the right idea, and Kaia Gerber followed suit in this Gooseberry Intimates So Chic design ($99).
