Rihanna Wore a Checkered Cape and Short Shorts, and Made It Look as Effortless as Any Ol' Robe

Rihanna's checkered outfit has sent us into a tailspin. While visiting her homeland of Barbados, the singer attended a Buju Banton concert on April 27 wearing a yellow racing-flag-style cape with matching shorts and slouchy boots by Virgil Abloh's Off-White. The bold set was originally modeled by Bella Hadid on the Fall 2019 runway during Paris Fashion Week earlier this year. This, of course, isn't the first time Rihanna has worn something fresh off the runway — the silk Burberry trench she wore at a Fenty Beauty event comes to mind — and it certainly won't be the last.

Though it's an adventurous look that could absolutely be tough to pull off, Rihanna has a history of taking fashion risks and making it look easy. While the voluminous cape offers plenty of coverage and might seem modest at first, we love that Rihanna committed to the full runway look — short shorts and all — which is actually pretty revealing once that cape gets knocked to the side. Always representing her own brands as well, Rihanna paired the outfit with the Savage x Fenty X Rib Demi Cup Bra in gray. Ahead, see photos of her taking the daring runway look for a spin.
