16 Times Busy Philipps's Style Was Just the COOLEST

Busy Philipps was born in the wrong decade. That said, I'm not altogether sure what year it is that she should claim as her own, Which has led me to the understanding that Busy Philipps is my personal style gift from the gods — showing off all the best wears from the last 50 years, and then some. And all, quite honestly, with more flair than they held when they were first debuted decades prior.

Busy is one of the OGs of Instagram, showing off everything from her workouts to outfits of the day on her feed nearly since the platform launched. It was a social media outlet that effortlessly took Kim of Freaks and Geeks, Audrey of Dawson's Creek, and more memorable on-screen characters, to make Busy herself feel like she was my actual real-life friend. Even if it was, sadly, far from the truth. Following, the world was allowed a longer peek into it all with her recently-canceled talk show, Busy Tonight, which this particular author couldn't get enough of and hopes to see on another network for another season in the future — fingers crossed. But beyond her real-life conversations, plethora of A-list guests, and hysterical guest-starred games, it's her wardrobe that I might have the hardest time parting with on such chic regularity.

Busy's style is unique, eclectic, and fun-loving, but also carries an air of modern chicness that is largely unmatched. With a wardrobe rife with ruffled dresses, smocked-front gowns, metallic pants, and denim jackets alike, she's likely spanned every fashion era from the Oregon Trail to '90s grunge, making stops at 1950s housewife, 1970s disco dancer, and more on the way. Ahead, my recent favorites . . . but a deep dive into Busy's Instagram feed will give you countless style gems, too.

Because hot pink is everything

Even when heading to a cocktail affair, Busy knows the easiest way to pop is a little bit of neon, by way of a girly high-neck ruffle mini dress.

Because black is a 12-month color

Even during the hottest days of the year, Busy channels her east coast friends with a little head-to-toe black.

Because florals and leather are the ultimate combination

There are few things more feminine than ditsy florals, and few more edgy than a leather Moto jacket. But together? They're the ultimate badass style icon uniform.

Because sunglasses will make any look better

Not that Busy is in need of any additional outfit help, especially with this killer floral maxi, but she knows her way around a pair of retro frames, and dives deep into the power of their wardrobe transformation.

Because high-low dressing is always a good idea

Even with your most ladies-who-lunch-bound printed midi dress, you'll be ready for anything (and look a whole lot more cool-girl styled!) with the addition of a denim trucker jacket and sneakers.

Because you can borrow from the boys and shine

Even with the ultimate of borrowed from the boys tuxedo influences, she still manages to make it her own by styling the cropped blazer top with a pair of disco-inspired, high-waisted, metallic pants.

Because proportion is everything

While you can only just barely make them out, this cutie babydoll dress is styled with a pair of over-the-knee boots because — you got it — playing with differing silhouettes and proportions makes all the difference when crafting your unique personal style.

Because puffy sleeves are EVERYTHING

No matter what your overall silhouette, this season has proven to be the Summer of puffy sleeves. Busy proves they're all that and then some, with this adorable gingham midi dress.

Because vintage prints instantly make you pop

Color- and print-lover, Busy pulls out all the stops when it comes to both categories. This one is a particular beauty, as it reminds us of what our grandmother might have worn in the '70s, with a little twist of youthful glow thrown in for fun.

Because layering can be chic

Even during the cold Winter months when layering is the name of the game, you can still look cute while bundling up. Busy's nautical sweater, bright red hat, and preppy plaid scarf are fun-loving and whimsical, while still looking classic.

Because overalls are not just for kids

I'm just going to leave it at that — let's all repeat, "Overalls are not just for kids."

Because everyone needs a sequin moment

What's more festive than some sequins? Answer: Few other fashion trend . . . besides this look that is made of red sequins and also includes a velvet headband to boot.

Because we all love a '90s moment

When you're looking for a way to amp up that floral mini dress, look to Busy: belt, denim jacket, over-the-knee boots? Done, done, and done.

Because a turtleneck is black-tie ready

This might by one of my favorite Busy looks to date, pairing a simple turtleneck bodysuit with a deep black tulle confection. I would say there are no words, but the reality is that there are so many. Whether a summertime tank, classic tee, or Winter turtle, this effortless evening look is for you.

Because leopard is key

Sure, leopard is a print . . .but it's also a fashion neutral. And Busy takes the neutrality to heart, pairing hers with a bright yellow top and multi-toned heels.

Because Mr. Nightgown will forever be a wardrobe essential

And, as Busy shares every night, Mr. Nightgown is an essential in her wardrobe — as it should be yours.
