The Sheer Details on Kate Middleton's Dress Are Enough to Make the Queen Blush

Royal Ascot kicked off on Tuesday morning with an appearance from the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, who accompanied Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles and Camilla, along many other royals, for the traditional carriage ride through the racing grounds. The family then met on the lawn for a chat, before heading to the royal box, where they had the best view of all the action from day one.

Ascot is one of the biggest events on the social calendar, and Kate Middleton made sure to dress to impress, choosing a cornflower blue ensemble with some surprising sheer panels. The dress may have been slightly risky (Royal Ascot has a notoriously strict dress code when it comes to showing skin), but it was perfectly coordinated with the queen's own similarly hued ensemble. Kate's dress is a modified version of a look from the Elie Saab Resort 2019 collection, which is made up of a macramé detail top with a pussy bow and an ballet-length layered net skirt with dot details. She topped her ensemble with a tilted hat that featured flowers on one side, and was very similar in shape to the one she chose for Trooping the Colour a couple of weeks ago.
