You Need to See Laverne Cox's Red Carpet Statement, Which Starts With Her Rainbow Bag

Laverne Cox showed up to the 2019 Emmy Awards with ACLU lawyer Chase Strangio fully prepared to talk about her red carpet look — including that incredible rainbow Edie Parker clutch! — and we don't blame her. The Orange Is the New Black star acknowledged her Monsoori dress and Lorraine Schwartz jewels, but she held her statement accessory high, alerting her fans, followers, and anyone watching the pre-show, to Oct. 8, when the US Supreme Court will hear whether Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (which prohibits sex discrimination in the work place) applies to LGBTQ+ discrimination. So many lives will be affected by the decision, and Laverne is using her platform — and clearly her style — to bring attention to the important issue.

But that's not all; we love Laverne even more for bringing up her recent participation in Rihanna's Savage x Fenty show at New York Fashion Week and commenting on the diverse cast. Laverne said it was amazing "being backstage with women who were a size 00 to 24," and we think it's great she focused on these positive topics instead of just focusing on the glamour. Keep reading to see Laverne's powerful moment from all angles and zoom in on her bag.
